New B Corp Pursues Sustainability and Supply Chain Empowerment

--

As a new member of the Certified B Corporation community, Atheava Ayurveda joins the global community of 4,000 esteemed companies that prioritize all stakeholders — the environment, community, workers, customers and shareholders— in their business practices and philosophy. Atheava, based in Connecticut, completed the rigorous B Impact Assessment and review process during the past year and became officially certified in April.

Atheava Ayurveda is part of the community of businesses that have used a third-party verification of their impact. Use the free B Impact Assessment to evaluate your company’s impact on all stakeholders, including the environment, your workers, your community and your customers

Rohit Madan, the Founder of Atheava, says becoming a B Corp serves as validation of his mission to produce high-quality natural skin care products — hand soaps, hand sanitizer, hand wash, body wash and face wash — made in a sustainable manner as well as provide a dignified means of employment for rural women of India. Atheava’s main supplier is Neev Herbal Handmade Soaps, a very small business in the village of Hurlung, in the state of Jharkhand in eastern India. Neev Herbal Handmade Soaps, founded by Shikha Jain and her husband Anurag, is special in their production process as:

  • All products are handmade by local, rural women and incorporate vegetable oils (pure coconut, olive and mahua oils) and pure organic essential oils with no chemicals or artificial colors.
  • All products are made in small batches using a cold process method, which best preserves the beneficial qualities of herbal ingredients.
  • Solar electricity is used for all power needs.

Atheava would like to bring value to customers through its quality products and contribute toward sustainable development in the world in its own small way by reducing its carbon footprint. With a commitment to the core philosophy of the B Corp community “to use business as a force for good,” Atheava will mindfully select future product additions and business partnerships, further promoting the shared goal of providing extraordinary possibilities for all.

With so much pain and suffering in India due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Neev team members are all doing well and gainfully employed as they continue to produce for Atheava Ayurveda. The women are considered essential workers as they are producing hand sanitizer, soaps, and wash.

B The Change gathers and shares the voices from within the movement of people using business as a force for good and the community of Certified B Corporations. The opinions expressed do not necessarily reflect those of the nonprofit B Lab.
